This project was constructed in Sylva, NC and the goal of the project was to expand parking for the existing campus and to provide infrastructure for a planned performing arts center. The project held special meaning to three owners from our firm, as they attended and graduated from Smoky Mountain High School . The project held a tight timeline and required strong work and long hours through the summer months in order to deliver the project by the start of school. The project included the construction of 530 lineal feet of structural arch plate, which is estimated to be the longest plate installation of its size in western North Carolina . To install the arch plate, BSI had to utilize a well point system that pumped 24 hours a day. It took 30 days of continuous pumping to draw the water table down 10 feet in order to construct the foundations of the arch plate. BSI was the prime contractor for the project and self performed many of the services required. Major items included within the construction of the project were 98,000 CY of excavation, all erosion control devices, 530 LF of 18' x 9' structural steel arch plate, 4,300 LF of 24" curb & gutter, 1,580 SY of concrete sidewalk, 2,405 LF of 18" storm drain pipe, 215 LF of 24" drain pipe, 810 LF of 30"storm drain pipe, 1,185 LF of 36" storm drain pipe, 56 storm drain structures, 8,770 TN of aggregate base, and 12,000 SY of asphalt pavement. |
